Agency Description  In 1850 a Board of Directors of convict prisons was set up in England. Fremantle Prison was built as a convict establishment by the British government in the 1850's as a result of the decision taken in 1849 to transport British felons to Western Australia. The last convict arrived in Western Australia in 1868 and Fremantle Prison was transferred to the colonial government in 1886. The transfer of the Imperial Convict Establishment and the Imperial Invalid Depot was completed on 30 April 1887.
