Agency Description  An interim Council was established in 1975 prior to the W.A. Heritage Committee being established two years later. In 1990, the Heritage of Western Australia Act was passed establishing the Heritage Council of Western Australia. The objectives , to compile a State Register and database containing comprehensive and authorative information on places of cultural heritage significance. To promote conservation and appropriate management of heritage places and facilitate development that is in harmony with the cultural heritage of the State. To promote awareness and knowledge of the cultural heritage within the community generally and also within Government and relevant professional disciplines. The organisation comprises a Council of 9 members, supported by a staff of approximately 14.
