Series Description  Laws regarding insolvent debtors were first introduced in Western Australia in 1842 by 6 Vic. No. 11, which enabled any person, public body or partnership to apply to the Civil Court for an insolvency order. The Act was replaced by the Insolvent Ordinance of 1856 (20 Vic., No. 10), a broader and more detailed statute. By this Act the Civil Court was constituted as a Court of Insolvency. The records herein were filed in compliance with the 1856 Act. The records include petitions for insolvency, creditors' notes, statements of assets and liabilities, notices of discharge of bankruptcy, and related documents.
