Registers of prisoners at Fremantle Prison, arranged by prisoner number. The registers record the following details for each prisoner: name, nationality, place of birth, age, physical details, marital status, religion, trade, whether can read and write, personal description (identifying marks - e.g. tattoos, scars, etc.). Particulars of conviction are also recorded: date of conviction, place of conviction, before whom sentenced, offence, sentence, remarks.
The item date range for the records listed is the first date of conviction of the first prisoner entering Fremantle Prison and the first date of conviction of the last prisoner entering Fremantle Prison, as recorded in the volume. Some prisoners were admitted to Fremantle Prison more than once. From volume 8 onwards, the date of discharge and remissions are shown.
Some early prisoner registrations are accompanied by prisoner mugshots.

NB: Access to these registers is restricted for seventy years from the date given in the item date range. This extra period of restriction is to accommodate later entries for prisoners who have re-offended.
